New Delhi: With the crucial Delhi elections fast approaching and with only a couple of weeks left, the BJP has planned an unprecedented 5,000 small rallies to unseat Arvind Kejrwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the capital city, party sources said.

If the reports are said to be true, then eye-popping number means the BJP will organise three to four rallies every single day in each of 70 constituencies of Delhi spread across 20 days.

Moreover, the BJP Delhi unit has reportedly urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address over 10 rallies. Most of the public meetings are expected to be held in unauthorised colonies.

Each of the 5,000 public meetings are expected to be attended by not more than 200 people as per instructions from the high command.

A person close to the party told a leading news portal that the high command has directed holding small rallies at several places for an effective outreach to the voters.

"The central leadership has given strict instructions to hold small rallies and gatherings of not more than 200 people for direct communication," a source said.

“It has been our experience that small gatherings are more impactful than rallies featuring 1,000 people. It becomes a bit difficult to continue the momentum after holding a mega rally or two. Given the massive electoral groundwork involved, our aim would be to hold small meetings for ‘target’ groups,” said an office-bearer of BJP.

Top 100 leaders of the BJP including many senior Cabinet ministers are expected to be part of the election campaigning. The roster is still being worked out, sources told leading news portal.

On Friday, BJP had announced its first list of candidates, revealing 57 names out of 70. However, the BJP is yet to name its candidate against chief minister Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi constituency.

Delhi will go to polls on February 8 and the counting of votes will take place on February 11.
