India's Covid situation deteriorates, over 2 lakh new cases in 24 hours

According to Union Health Ministry data, the number of new Covid cases stood at 2,00,739. The country also reported 1038 deaths in the last 24 hours.

<p><strong>Vaccination Update</strong><br />&nbsp;</p><p>India has so far administered 11.43 crore vaccine doses, with over 31.39 lakh doses being administered till 8 pm on Wednesday.&nbsp;A total of 69,974 Covid Vaccination Centres were operational, marking a rise of an average of 24,000 active Vaccination Centres.<br />&nbsp;</p><p>According to the health ministry, workplace vaccinations have enabled a high turnout of beneficiaries. Health ministry data also shows that three states have administered over 1 crore vaccinations -- Maharashtra (1,11,19,018), Rajasthan (1,02,15,471) and Uttar Pradesh (1,00,17,650).</p>

<p><strong>Addressing Remdesivir shortage</strong><br />&nbsp;</p><p>The increasing instances of covid complications have resulted in the demand for Remdesivir shooting through the roof.&nbsp;Days after the government banned the export of Remdesivir, approvals have been given for stepping up the manufacturing capacity of Remdesivir to around 78 lakh vials per month.</p><p>The current total installed capacity of the seven manufacturers of Remdesivir is 38.80 lakh vials per month. Remdesivir manufacturers have volunteered to cut the price to under Rs 3,500 by the end of this week, to support the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to fight against COVID, the Chemicals and Fertilizers ministry said in a statement.</p>
