Centre spent Rs 4,131.48 crore on equipping Covid warriors
Centre has released the data on the amount spent on equipping Covid warriors and frontline workers in the fight against the deadly virus.
Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Ashwini Kumar Choubey has informed the Rajya Sabha that Rs 4,131.48 crore was spent on procuring essential items for frontline workers.
These include:
* 178.14 lakh PPE coveralls worth Rs 1540.34 crore
* 432.40 lakh N95 masks worth Rs 339.47 crore
* 173 lakh goggles worth Rs 369.16 crore
* 242.10 lakh gloves worth Rs 31.75 crore
* 38867 ventilators worth Rs 1850.76 crore
The minister also informed that Rs 6309.9 crore was released to states and Union Territories under the Centre's Covid 19 Emergency Response and Health Systems Preparedness Package.
The minister clarified that the states were allotted these funds so that they could procure necessary Covid-19 equipment like masks, PPE kits and ventilators.
Ashwini Kumar Choubey also said that during the financial year 2019-20 too, the Centre had released Rs 1113.21 crore to state and Union Territories under the National Health Mission towards management and containment of the Covid-19 pandemic.
