Palakkad: A mob allegedly thrashed one of the accused in the Walayar rape and death case who was acquitted. The incident occurred on Saturday (December 7).

C Madhu, who was one of the accused in the Walayar rape case sustained injuries in the attack and has been admitted to a government hospital in Palakkad. According to reports, it began when a group of more than 10 men made fun of him as he was passing through Attappallam junction with a friend on a bike.

“Cases have been registered against 10 persons over the incident,” Walayar sub-inspector Manoj K Gopi said.

Three persons Manu, Vinu and Krishnaprasad of Attappallam who were arrested for assaulting Madhu were produced before the magistrate on Saturday were granted bail later, Walayar Police said.

The three persons had allegedly raped a 9-year-old and a 13-year-old girl, who were sisters, in Palakkad in 2017. The 13-year-old minor girl allegedly committed suicide in January 2017 while the younger 9-year-old girl was died almost two months later.
