Prithvi Shaw returns from injury; Bhuvneshwar Kumar undergoes successful surgery

Prithvi Shaw is fit and will join the India A team in New Zealand, the BCCI has announced. He was injured during a Ranji Trophy game. Bhuvneshwar Kumar will be at the National Cricket Academy to continue his rehabilitation

Mumbai: Opening batsman Prithvi Shaw has completed recovered from an injury and will play for India A during the tour of New Zealand, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Thursday (January 16).

The BCCI also provided fitness update on Bhuvneshwar Kumar. According to the Indian cricket board, paceman Bhuvneshwar underwent successful surgery in London and will be at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for rehabilitation.

“Fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar travelled to London on 9th January and underwent a successful sports hernia surgery on 11th January. He was assisted by Team India physiotherapist Yogesh Parmar. Bhuvneshwar will now return to India and commence his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru,” the BCCI said.

“Opening batsman Prithvi Shaw has completed his rehab at the NCA and has recovered from his left shoulder injury. He has been made available for selection for all formats of the game. Prithvi has left for New Zealand and will soon join India A,” it added.

The 29-year-old Bhuvneshwar last played for India on December 11, 2019, against the West Indies in a T20I. He took two wickets in that game. So far, he has played 21 Tests, 114 ODIs and 43 T20Is.

Shaw, the 20-year-old right-hand batsman, has played two Tests for the country. He played in a Ranji Trophy game earlier this month and during that contest, was withdrawn from the game due to an injury.
