Bengaluru: How can a patient with withdrawal symptoms be found? And how can we bring them back to life?

Associate professor of psychiatry Dr N Manjunatha of NIMHANS Bengaluru said that patients with alcohol addiction will suffer from withdrawal symptoms such as tremors of hands and body, shivering, sweating, flushing, palpitation, even seizures (withdrawal seizures) and confusion (delirium tremens).

He added that these patients can be managed at PHCs too. He also requested people to reach out to the doctors or contact the doctor by telephonic or video consultations if their near and dear ones are having these symptoms.

The public helpline number is 08046110007.

Meanwhile, to those experiencing withdrawal symptoms due to lack of alcohol in Kerala, there is some relief. But this relief is only for those who possess a doctor's prescription. They will get their daily dose with the help of Kerala state excise department. According to reports, the Kerala State Beverages Corporation (BEVCO) has been given the responsibility to provide liquor to homes of the needy.

The alcohol ban in Kerala seems to be killing more people than the virus itself in the state, which has one of India’s highest per capita liquor consumption.
