No vehciles on eight Bengaluru roads on December 31

It’s time for the city to revel in the spirit of the New Year. The Bengaluru Traffic Police have chalked out a plan to ensure the safety of motorists and avoid traffic jams on a few prominent roads. In this regard, vehicle movement on eight roads will be suspended from December 31 evening to the early morning of January 1.

Bengaluru city will witness new year celebrations as usual. And as is the case always, it’s an uphill task for police authorities. The Bengaluru Traffic Police has announced that it will suspend vehicular movement on eight roads from 8pm on December 31, 2018, to 2am on January 1, 2019, as a huge crowd is expected to gather in revelry to welcome the new year.

The eight roads are MG Road, Brigade Road, Museum Road, Kamaraj Road, Residency Cross Road, Church Street, Rest House Road and Residency Road. Apart from installing digital screens, the police department will also use CCTV cameras and drones to keep an eye on revellers.  Apart from banning vehicular traffic on these roads, police will shut down access to flyovers including outer ring roads to avoid accidents.

To crack down drunk driving, triple riding, use of shrill horns and riding on footpaths on the new year, the police have identified 100 check points to crack their whip on violators of traffic rules. There will be additional monitoring on Nandi Hills, NICE Road and six tolls to tackle similar offences.
