Thai divers struggle to free whale shark caught in rope (Video)

Synopsis

A group of divers in Thailand tried to save a whale shark whose tail was tied by a rope

Dramatic footage of divers recorded when they tried to free a massive whale in trouble from a piece of nylon rope caught on its tail. In the video, a group found a shark in the island of Koh Tao, Thailand, and was unsuccessful in releasing it with a small knife. But it was unknown how the whale got tangled in the cable.

Whale sharks are the largest fish in the sea, typically about 5.5-10 metres (18-33 feet) in length and weighing around 20 tonnes. As per sources, diver Sarakorn Pokaprakan, who filmed the video, told news agency Reuters that the shark would likely not survive the injury and that it was unfortunate they did not have a bigger knife when they spotted it.
