North Korea: Kim Jong Un apologises over killing of Seoul official

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un apologised on Friday over the killing of a South Korean official  

Seoul: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, on September 25, apologised over the killing of a South Korean official. Kim Jong Un said he is “very sorry" about the “unexpected” and “unfortunate” incident.

According to reports, Kim’s apology was expected to ease anti-North sentiments in South Korea.

“Comrade Kim Jong Un, the State Affairs Commission chairman, feels very sorry to give big disappointment to President Moon Jae-in and South Korean citizens because an unexpected, unfortunate incident happened at a time when South Korea grapples with the coronavirus pandemic”, Moon adviser Suh Hoon cited the North Korean message as saying.

According to reports, the North Korean troops first fired blanks after the man on a floating object, didn’t fully explain why he was there, rather than saying he’s from South Korea. He then showed moves to flee, prompting North Korean troops to fire 10 rounds.

The report added that authorities they haven't burned the man's body but rather the "floating material" that was carrying him.

When the troops came near the man’s floating object, they only found lots of blood on the object and the man wasn't seen.

According to the message read by Suh, the troops determined he was dead and burned the floating object in line with anti-coronavirus rules.
