Synopsis

Trump's reference to India's air as filthy triggered instant outrage and debate on social media.

US President Donald Trump has stirred the hornet's nest with his shocking statement against India during the last presidential debate at the Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee.

Responding to a query on his agenda to take on climate change and global warming, Trump retorted: "We have different programmes. We have lowest number in emmissions. We have had the best numbers in 35 years. Look at Russia, China, India... the air is filthy. They were taking away our businesses. I have stopped that."

Trump's reference to India's air as filthy triggered instant outrage and debate on social media.

Some even went to the extent to say that Trump may have just lost the Indian American vote in the elections.
