In a Facebook post, Ghani said, "The Taliban have triumphed... and are now accountable for their countrymen's honour, property, and self-preservation."

As the Taliban entered the capital on Sunday, deposed Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said that he had fled the country to "prevent a flood of bloodshed". He stated that if he had stayed behind, "countless patriots would have been murdered, and the capital of Kabul would have been devastated."

In a Facebook post, Ghani said, "The Taliban have triumphed... and are now accountable for their countrymen's honour, property, and self-preservation." He further said they are now subjected to a new historical test. Either they will maintain Afghanistan's name and honour, or they will prioritize other locations and networks. Ghani did not reveal where he has travelled to, but various media reports suggested that he had gone to Tajikistan.

In other news, the United Nations Security Council, presided over by India, will meet again at around 7:30 p.m. to examine the bleak situation in Afghanistan following the Taliban's takeover. The action comes after Russia stated that it was collaborating with other countries to conduct a debate on an insurgent military takeover of the country.

Earlier, in a speech to the country on Saturday, Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani stated that there is a tremendous threat and that remobilizing Afghan security and defence forces are a 'top priority.'

Ghani promised in a recorded message that his priority as President is to prevent more instability, bloodshed, and displacement of people. He also stated that he would not allow a forced war on Afghans to result in additional murders, the loss of advances made over the previous 20 years, or the destruction of public property.
