Bengaluru: An association of fishermen have expressed fears about mass fish deaths at Ulsoor lake as contaminated water from the allegedly dysfunctional sedimentation tank is being routed through pipes. Subbaiah, secretary of Ulsoor Lake Fishermen Society said that no one from the BBMP which is the custodian of lake has attended to this issue. "The sedimentation tank is filled with sewage and garbage, and this is being let into the lake. We have complained to officials but no has come so far. The other concern is, in case of heavy rain, the tank will overflow into lake. It is around this time that we witness mass fish deaths due to reducing DO level in water." he said.
The Namma Bengaluru Foundation which is known for fighting such causes has expressed concerns and has drawn the attention of authorities. NR Suresh, director NBF said, "Officials of the BBMP are known for their negligence and are now giving excuses of being busy with election duty."
