In a shameful incident, a group of hooligans under the influence of ganja caught, tied school kids to a tree and forced them to smoke beedi. The incident happened a few days and after the video went viral, the police detained 6 including 4 minors. Adult accused persons were sent to judicial custody while the minors were sent to remand home.
In the video, a group of elements can be seen conversing in Tamil and asking the school-going kids to sit and do things as told. An accused can be seen hitting the child with a cane.
The scared kids were then tied to and despite their repeated appeals to let them go, the elements gave them beedi and forced them to smoke.
The video appeared on social media and soon went viral. The parents in the surrounding areas also expressed resentment towards the cornered local leader and former BBMP corporator Srikanth Putta. The hooligans were then caught and handed over to Mahadevapura Police.
It is said that the main accused Vivek, 19 and Mahesh, 18 and their notorious gang had made the government school compound as their hangout spot and would tease and rag kids. Locals said that they have informed police about such menace in the past but nothing happened. Now after the police detained them, cases under Juvenile Justice Act and others have been registered against the accused.
Child Rights Commission to register suo motu case:
As the viral video reached the chairman of the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KCPCR) Fr Antony Sebastian condemning the incident confirmed to Asianet Newsable that a suo motu case will be registered in this connection and more details will be sought from the police.
He also said that as cases of ganja abuse among minors have been reported, he will ask stations to submit details.
