NCB's major drug bust: Whooping 3.4 tonnes ganja seized, 3 Maharashtra residents arrested

In a major drug bust, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Bangalore Zone along with the Hyderabad team foiled an interstate drug supply and seized 3,400 kilograms of ganja.

Based on the information, the team stopped the truck carrying 141 gunny bags of ganja. The accused persons transporting the contraband from Andhra-Odisha border were heading to dispose of the high-end gaanja to Maharashtra and Hyderabad via Bengaluru.

The cops seized the truck and arrested three persons identified as D Shinde, M R Kamble and N Jogdand, all from Latur district, Maharashtra.

The cops say the mastermind is from Maharashtra and is yet to be tracked. The accused had packed ganja in 141 gunny bags and covered the contraband with tarpaulin and nursery plants to hoodwink the cops at checkpoints.

It is said that the drug network systematically peddles the drug in various colleges, parties, individuals and others with their well-connected network. Marijuana is mainly distributed amongst youngsters among school and college students.

Illegal ganja (Marijuana) cultivation in India is largely concentrated around the Naxal belt of Andhra-Odisha border areas.

The contraband is supplied to places like Delhi, Mumbai, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal and also smuggled to Island nation Sri Lanka.
