Twin blasts within 5 minutes at high-security Air Force Station in Jammu, terrorist carrying 5kg IED arrested

The Indian Air Force tweeted that two low-intensity explosions caused minor damage to the roof of a building while the other exploded in an open area.


Two explosions went off at the high-security technical area of Air Force Station in Jammu within a gap of five minutes on the intervening night of June 26-27. 

In the latest update, IAF stations in Pathankot, Punjab and Awantipur, Srinagar have been put on high alert following the explosions at the J&K airbase.

A team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrived at Air Force Station, Jammu. 

The Indian Air Force tweeted that two low-intensity explosions caused minor damage to the roof of a building while the other exploded in an open area.

Two low intensity explosions were reported early Sunday morning in the technical area of Jammu Air Force Station. One caused minor damage to the roof of a building while the other exploded in an open area.

The initial probe suggests that the explosions were carried out by drones. As per the sources, the explosions took place around 1.40 am. If confirmed, this would be the first-ever drone-based attack in India.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to IAF Vice Chief Air Marshal HS Arora regarding the incident. Western Air Command second-in-command Air Marshal Vikram Singh is going to Jammu to take stock of the situation.

Teams of Jammu and Kashmir police along with other security agencies and forensic experts are at the spot to ascertain the nature of the blast. 

According to initial inputs, both explosions went off close to the helicopter hangar at the base. Assets like the Mi-17 helicopters and transport aircraft are stationed at the airbase.
