In a move that is being viewed as an act of vendetta by the opposition in Maharashtra, the state government has slashed the security cover of Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis and other BJP leaders.

Among those whose security cover has been totally removed include BJP leaders like state BJP chief Chandrakant Patil, Sudhir Mungantiwar, Ram Kadam and Narayan Rane.

Instead, X-level security cover has been provided to Sena youth wing chief Varun Sardesai and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar's spouse Sunetra Pawar.

Reacting to the state government's decision, BJP leader Ram Kadam said, "The action has been taken with an intention to seek revenge. If anything wrong happens, then the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi government will be responsible."

Defending the decision, the state government said that the security was withdrawn following a threat review.
