In the new guidelines, not only shop owners and their workers, but also visiting customers should have the latest Covid negative report through the RT-PCR test. And particularly the shop owners and their staff members must have received at least one dose of Covid vaccination.

The move comes at a time when Kerala Health Minister Veena George has launched 'Death Information Portal' which gives exact information on deaths that occurred due to Covid-19. The state has been accused of hiding Covid death data by the Opposition.

On Friday, Kerala reported 19,948 new cases and due to the spike from the last several days, it has also caused worry in neighbouring Karnataka and Tamil Nadu states which have issued guidelines of 'no entry' for travelers from Kerala if they fail to produce the latest Covid negative report.

And yesterday, the Karnataka government announced a weekend lockdown in four districts bordering Kerala as the number of cases were reported from Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu, Mysuru and Chamarajanagar districts. This move from panicked Karnataka comes as Kerala has given relaxation of lockdown keeping in the mind of annual Onam celebration.
