The Indian Council of Medical Research has announced that its Pune-based National Institute of virology has managed to successfully isolate and culture the UK strain of the Coronavirus from the UK arrivals.
According to ICMR, India is the first to isolate the strain of UK variant of COVID-19.
The ICMR, in a tweet, informed that Vero cell lines were used by its scientists to culture the UK-variant of the virus.

The new strain first came to light in December in the United Kingdom after which it notified the World Health Organisation of the same. Following this, parts of the UK went into strict Tier 4 lockdown to prevent the spread of the new strain.
