The person has not been removed from the Games Village, where athletes and staff of participating nations will reside, and isolated in a hotel.

Even though the identity of the person has not yet been revealed, Tokyo Olympics 2020 CEO Toshiro Muto confirmed that the infected person was a foreign visitor involved in organising the Games.

The announcement adds to mounting concerns about infections at the Olympic Games.

The 2020 Olympics, which was postponed for a year due to the global Coronavirus pandemic, will be held without spectators and under tight quarantine rules.
