Highlights
  • Noted singer Yesudas criticises the selfie trend for reasons other than narcissism
  • Does not like the idea of men and women shoulders touching while taking a selfie
  • Believes that woman must maintain a distance because that is a mark of "dignity and etiquette"

Noted singer and 77-year-old Yesudas is back in the news again, and it’s nothing to do with music.

Instead, he now has an issue with selfies – particularly, members of the opposite sex – huddling and touching shoulders together when taking a selfie.

According to an Indian Express report, Yesudas had mentioned that women maintained a respectable distance when introduced, and that women would never approach a man for a photo, and that was a mark of their “dignity and etiquette.”

However, it was later reported that he was merely stating an opinion and that while he had no problem getting his pictures taken with women, he “did not like men and women standing in close proximity, in physical contact with each other, while clicking those selfies.”

This is not the first time that Yesudas has made people cringe and ruffled feathers.

In 2014, he had an issue with women wearing jeans. He had said, “What should be covered must be covered. Our culture involves the beauty which should be covered. Women should not trouble others by wearing jeans,” the report states.

Social media had a field day:
