Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray made a big announcement in the Assembly today. Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis had earlier claimed that the government had not fulfilled its original promise of loan waiver, and walked out of the house with other BJP MLAs.
Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray has announced in the Maharashtra Assembly that the government would waive off farmers' loans upto Rs 2 lakh.
According to reports, this year monsoon has harmed farmers by destroying 94,53,139 hectares of crop. Soybean and cotton crops have suffered the most.
"Crop loans outstanding up to September 30, 2019, will be waived by my government. The upper ceiling for the amount is Rs 2 lakh. The scheme will be called Mahatma Jyotirao Phule loan waiver scheme," Thackeray said.
Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis had earlier claimed that the government had not fulfilled its original promise of loan waiver, and walked out of the house with other BJP MLAs.
Uddhav Thackeray said on Tuesday that he would fulfill his promise of providing aid to farmers, and the opposition should not try to make it appear as if it was being done under its pressure.
"The word given to the farmers of the state is (a matter) between them and me, and I am going to fulfill the promise," Thackeray had said.
