Man portable anti-tank missile tested successfully

Synopsis

Launched from a man-portable launcher integrated with a thermal sight, the missile's target was mimicking a tank.

Defence Research & Development Organisation successfully flight tested indigenously developed low weight man-portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile with fire-and-forget capabilities for the Indian Army, giving an impetus to the government's ambitious initiative of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat'.

Launched from a man-portable launcher integrated with a thermal sight, the missile's target was mimicking a tank.

"It hit the target in direct attack mode and destroyed it with precision. The test has validated the minimum range successfully," the DRDO said.

All the mission objectives were met, it added.

Earlier, the missile was successfully tested for the maximum range.

"It is incorporated with state-of-the-art Miniaturized Infrared Imaging Seeker along with advanced avionics," the DRDO said.

The missile was launched using a tripod. It is designed for a maximum range of 2.5 km with a launch weight of less than 15 Kg.

The test brings the development of indigenous 3rd generation man-portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile close to completion.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has congratulated DRDO and Industry for the successful test.
