INS Tabar completes operations in the Tyrrhenian Sea

Synopsis

"The exercise covered a wide range of naval operations including air defence procedures, replenishment at sea, communication drills and cross-deck helo operations by day and night," Indian Navy spokesperson Commander Vivek Madhwal said. 

Indian Navy ship INS Tabar participated in a two-day Maritime Partnership Exercise with the Italian Navy's frontline frigate ITS Antonio Marceglia in the Tyrrhenian Sea.

"The exercise covered a wide range of naval operations including air defence procedures, replenishment at sea, communication drills and cross-deck helo operations by day and night," Indian Navy spokesperson Commander Vivek Madhwal said. 

The exercise was held on July 4 and July 5.

"The exercise was mutually beneficial in enhancing interoperability and towards consolidating combined operations against maritime threats," Commander Madhwal added.
      
The exercise culminated with a 'Steam Past' by the two ships, as per the naval custom.

INS Tabar had entered the Port of Naples in Italy on July 3 as part of the ongoing deployment to the Mediterranean. 

Upon her arrival, the Italian Navy accorded a warm welcome to INS Tabar. 

During the stay, Commanding Officer Captain Mahesh Mangipudi called on the senior officers of the Italian Navy and the coast guard. 

INS Tabar has been deployed for naval exercises with friendly nations in Europe and Africa.

INS Tabar, which commenced its prolonged deployment on June 13, will visit a number of ports in Africa and Europe till September end, 2021.

As per the plan, the ship has to transit across the Gulf of Aden, Red Sea, Suez Canal, Mediterranean Sea, North Sea and Baltic Sea while making port calls at Djibouti, Egypt, Italy, France, UK, Russia, Netherlands, Morocco, and Arctic Council countries like Sweden and Norway.

INS Tabar is a Talwar-class stealth Frigate built for the Indian Navy in Russia. 

The ship is equipped with a versatile range of weapons and sensors and is a part of the Indian Navy's Western Fleet which is based in Mumbai under Western Naval Command.
