Coronavirus: India reports 96,982 new COVID-19 cases, 446 fatalities in last 24 hours

Maharashtra, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Kerala and Punjab cumulatively account for 75.88 per cent of the total active Covid-19 cases in India. Maharashtra alone accounts for nearly 58.23 per cent of the total active caseload of the country.

After reporting a record spike of more than 1 lakh new Covid-19 cases, India reported 96,982 fresh infections in the past 24 hours, according to Union Health Ministry data on Tuesday.

The new coronavirus infections pushed the nationwide tally to 1,26,86,049. The death toll increased to 1,65,547 with 446 daily new fatalities.

The active cases have now increased to 7,88,223 comprising 6.21% of the total infections, while the recovery rate has further dropped to 92.48%.

A total of 25,02,31,269 samples tested for Covid up to April 5. Of these, 12,11,612 samples were tested on Monday, said the Indian Council of Medical Research.
