China claims it has eradicated extreme poverty

Chinese President Xi Jinping has announced that the country has scored a complete victory in its fight against poverty.

"Through the joint efforts made by the people and the Communist Party of China, we have declared complete success in fighting against poverty. As per the current situation, 98.99 million rural impoverished population has been lifted out of poverty from 2012 to 2020. About 832 core counties and 128,000 poor villages have been removed from the poverty list," Chinese President Ji Xinping announced.
