Dutch creator Wilfred Stijger and 30 other sand sculptors were involved in the construction of the sandcastle. At the top of the sandcastle is a crown, which Wilfred said is his interpretation of the Coronavirus.

According to Wilfred, the sandcastle symbolises the power that the Coronavirus has had over the world. To ensure that the sandcastle can withstand the forces of nature, the structure comprises 10 per cent clay and a layer of glue. During construction, a wooden structure was used to stabilise the castle.
