Water retention makes you gain weight due to the presence of excess water in the body, it can also cause chronic inflammation

There will be times when increased weight on the weighing scale may look like you have gained muscle mass and fat. However, it may just be the water weight that you have gained. We give you some expert tips to lose that excessive water weight and ensure a healthy body. Here are some important and effective tips to reduce water weight.

Reduce the intake of salt: Sodium is a mineral that is abundantly found in salt. It is one of the most common electrolytes in the human body. The fluctuation in the levels of sodium may lead to imbalances in the body, leading to water retention.

Increase your water intake: Drink at least 8 glasses of water every day to ensure you are flushing out excess salt in the bloodstream, also allowing the release of retained water. In fact, mild dehydration may also be one of the causes of water retention. So, make sure your body is well hydrated at all times.

Engage in at least 30 minutes of exercise: Engaging in any form of exercise daily for at least 30 minutes will help you reduce water weight and how. Exercise causes you to sweat in order to maintain a normal temperature. Sweating may also withdraw substances like sodium, through the pores, out of the body, helping you lose a tremendous amount of water weight. So, make sure you are indulging in some or the other physical activity.

Get adequate sleep: Surprising, isn't it? Sleep may also affect the sympathetic nerves in the kidneys that regulate sodium content and water balance. Adequate sleep will help your body control hydration levels and minimize water retention in return. Aim to get at least 7-8 hours of good sleep.

Take more electrolytes: Electrolytes are essential minerals that play an important role in the body. They also regulate the water balance. Imbalance in the levels of electrolytes like magnesium and potassium may lead to unwanted shifts in the fluid balance, further increasing your water weight. Take orange juice, lemon juice and coconut water in order to maintain a balance in the body.

Focus on these foods: Include more green leafy vegetables, cumin seeds, strawberry, garlic, fennel seeds and green tea among others in your diet to ensure a healthy balance of essential minerals and nutrients in the body.
