Budget 2021: Sports stadiums in India to be monetised

India has more than 74 stadiums across sports, including indoor sports complex and motor-racing circuits. The 2021-22 financial year budget would see the venues across the nation in India being monetised. Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman hinted the same on Monday.

In what could be considered a significant development considering sports in India, stadiums could now be monetised across the nation. The initiative was announced by Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, during the 2021 Budget session at the Parliament, on Monday.
India has about 74 stadiums across different sports, like cricket, football, hockey, athletics and many more. Also, it has some indoor venues, along with motorsports circuits.

Meanwhile, eight more stadiums are reportedly under construction and planned to be built. As for the monetisation, further details are awaited on how it would be implemented.
Four international cricket stadiums are already under construction for the confirmed stadium projects, in Gwalior, Rajgir, Udaipur and Amravati.
The budget has so far drawn mixed reactions from Indian citizens. This year's budget is a crucial one because of the country's economic devastation faced by the Covid-19 pandemic.
