Rivers Cauvery and Mahadayi have been the bone of contention for Karnataka for over 60 years now. Though several water boards, tribunals have been formed in all these years, the problem is intact. The main reason for this being both the rivers are dependent on rainfall each year. Thus, the water releasing table also must change every year, according to the rainfall. But the states just want to stick to the tribunal or board report, which has allotted them a good share of water flow.
