On March 8, a suspected IS sympathiser, Saifullah, was gunned down in Lucknow by the UP ATS. In this successful operation, the important tip-off was given by the Telangana police counter-intelligence cell (CI Cell) to both Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh police.

The CI Cell was aware of the working of a Kurasan module in the country on the basis of the information provided by one of the many IS sympathisers from Telangana as well as Kerala. This cell was tracking telegram chat messages from more than two months; the Times of India quoted a source as saying.

The Kurasan module was allegedly led by 28-year-old, Atif Muzafar aka Al Kasim. The CI cell suspected that this module is planning terror attack, but they thought the possible target would be Hyderabad.

However, it turned out to be the Bhopal-Ujjain Passenger train. There was a blast on this train on March 7 at the Jabri railway station in Madhya Pradesh. At the time, the Telangana CI Cell was tracking the location of the Kurasan gang member, and they found that most of them were in Bhopal indicating their involvement in the blast.

Following this, the DGP of Telangana Anurag Sharma informed the DGP of Madhya Pradesh about their surveillance of the Kurasan module and that some members of the module are present in the state. Soon after, the MP police nabbed some people who further gave information about Saifullah and UP police was accordingly alerted, and from here on the UP ATS took action.

Earlier also, the Telangana state police have given a tip-off about Kerala youth who was trying to get into ISIS to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) that led to arrest of many suspects, another report claimed.
