Hyderabad drug bust KCR cancels investigating officer Akun Sabharwals leave

A few days ago, the drug bust in Hyderabad sent the city into a tizzy. The involvement of the Telugu film industry is what makes it an even bigger event. Heading the investigation is IPS officer Akun Sabharwal, who has been hot on the tail of drug peddlers and the whole nexus in the city. In the midst of this , there were reports the officer has been asked to go on leave. But as it turns out, Telangana chief minister KCR has cancelled Sabharwal’s leave.

It was earlier speculated that the officer was made to go on leave because of his investigation making the government and the film industry biggies nervous. Now, the officer has stated that it was a personal leave he had applied for earlier due to his mother’ death a few months ago.

According to a report in the Deccan Chronicle, Sabharwal has ruled out any pressure being applied on him by the government. In fact, this is cancellation, is proof that the government does not want him to leave such an important investigation mid-way.

The officer has categorically stated that there is no link between this case and his holiday. Reports in local media stressed that given the celebrity names that were involved in the drug racket, the government thought it best to remove the officer temporarily to safeguard the actors.
