Nokia 3 now available in India: First Impressions

  • Nokia 3 goes on sale starting today.
  • Nokia 3 is priced at Rs 9499.
  • It is available via offline stores.

HMD Global announced the all-new Nokia phones early last week in India, and later had held an event at the Sangeetha store in Koramangala, Bengaluru. At the store, the company announced the Nokia 3  availability in stores starting and we also saw the first customer to have bought the Nokia 3. We got to spend some time with the Nokia 3 again and here are our first impressions.

The Nokia 3 is available now and you will find it across offline stores in India. It is priced at Rs 9499. HMD Global has put in place over 400 distributors in India to support its range of phones. Its devices will be available at over 80,000 retail outlets across the country. Vodafone customers will get 5GB data per month at Rs 149 per month for 3 months. In addition, consumers will get Rs 2500 off (Rs 1800 on hotels and Rs 700 off on domestic flights) on

At Sangeetha stores, which is brand Nokia's first mobile retailer, the company sold the Nokia 3 to its first customer. At the event, were present T.S Sridhar, General Manager Sales, South, HMD Global and Subhash Chandra, Managing Director, Sangeetha Mobiles, along with Pranav Shroff, ‎Director,
Global Portfolio Strategy & Planning, who is pretty much the face of HMD Global and brand Nokia here.

The Nokia 3 is built of plastic, but that doesn't mean it looks cheap. HMD has ensured that the device has the aesthetics and robust build quality that Nokia is known for. It measures 143.4x71.4x8.4mm and we saw both white and black colour variants. And, we loved the white. Unlike the Nokia 6 and Nokia 5, the Nokia 3 doesn't come with a fingerprint scanner.

Its light and compact, and we could easily use it with one hand. The right edge comes with power and volume keys, and the top edge is fitted with an audio jack. The device also gets micro USB port and mono speaker. There are also blue and copper options.

The device sports a 5-inch HD display with Gorilla Glass protection. It has 2.5D glass atop. The viewing angles seemed fine in our limited usage.

The device comes with a 8MP rear camera with auto-focus. Interestingly, it comes equipped with the same camera on the front.

Processor and OS

The device comes powered by quad-core Mediatek processor coupled with 2GB of RAM. It runs android Nougat, the latest from Google. This is one of the USPs of the device as smartphones in this price range still haven't got the Nougat update. In fact, Pranav Shroff, talking about the three core principles, maintains that Nokia devices will keep getting up to date software. Moroever, the UI is clean and uncluttered, unlike most companies today.

Storage and sensors

It gets 16GB onboard storage, which can be further expanded up to 128GB. The device has plenty of sensors including including accelerometer, gyroscope and NFC.

Finally, it is fuelled by a 2630mAh battery. We can comment on the battery life once we've taken it for a spin in our labs.
