TVF CEO Arunabh Kumar’s 'defence' shows that there will be more girls like the Indian Fowler

  • "I am a heterosexual, single man and when I find a woman sexy, I tell her she's sexy. I compliment women. Is that wrong? Having said that, I am very particular about my behavior - I will approach a woman, but never force myself.”
  • Why I say there will be more girls like the Indian Fowler and Reema Sengupta and why comment boxes will always contain that group of individuals who will ask “ Why now?”

This is what TVF CEO Arunabh Kumar said in his defence after being accused of sexual harassment at the workplace by a former employee . The channel head spoke to Mumbai Mirror rejecting the charges. "I unconditionally and unequivocally deny all these allegations. Social media has already declared me an offender, but I am ready to address all the allegations against me. I am open to receiving a police complaint so that I can respond legally as well. TVF is bigger than me and if there is a remote chance that I have done any wrong, let me be persecuted", he told them.

This was in reply to the post written by the on a website. Encouraged by the girl’s courage many more women who have previously worked, interacted under, with or for Arunabh Kumar came forward expressing their feelings as well. Most commented how they too felt victimised, objectified and harassed by the same man, through his words, actions, demeanour and body language.

Then when asked what he had to say to the Reema Sengupta post. He had this to say: "The kind of insinuations the FB post makes are untrue. I am a heterosexual, single man and when I find a woman sexy, I tell her she's sexy. I compliment women. Is that wrong? Having said that, I am very particular about my behavior - I will approach a woman, but never force myself.”

If one were to just look at the post written by the Indian Fowler, in the comments section almost half of the readers asked her this question: “Why are you speaking up now?”

All of them believe in the saying “ Speak now or forever hold your peace”.

You ask: Why I say there will be more girls like the Indian Fowler and Reema Sengupta and why comment boxes will always contain that group of individuals who will ask “ Why now?”

Read his response “I am a heterosexual, single man and when I find a woman sexy, I tell her she's sexy.” That, Mr Arunabh Kumar,  in no way grants you the right to ‘compliment’ a woman and say while inappropriately touching a woman – ‘he finds the tattoo sexy’.

Then by that excuse every obsessive stalker tomorrow will walk to their victims and grab them by the hand or touch them inappropriately

and say “I found you sexy, I told her she’s sexy. I compliment her”.  But what guarantees them the right to behave in this manner and see nothing wrong in this is because  “ I am a heterosexual MALE”!

Yes, you read that right. The ‘Male Privilege’ .

Even in the post of the Indian Fowler, his words reek of misogyny and the confidence that nothing will be done against him even if there were a complaint against him. When his victim threatened to go the police all he said was “ Police to meri pocket me hai”.

No need to shake your head in disbelief – this is the confidence men in our country have when they harass women, rape girls or pass objectionable comments. Each one of them knows that tomorrow it will be the girl who is to lose. Her honour will be besmirched and the victim would rather keep quiet than face the society. Every Arunabh Kumar knows that society is there to say “She was asking for it” or that “It’s her fault.

Now do you see, how we as a society have failed our women.

However, I do need to say this, that though the claims/allegations have not been verified. I believe no man of such stature should have to think of women this way. I am not saying he is guilty, all I say is that his behaviour replicates the mentality of a lot of other Indian men.
