Digital India: PAN card in minutes and pay tax via app

  • By using the e-KYC facility of Aadhaar card, the Central Board of Direct Taxes is planning to issue PAN card on the real-time basis.

Giving a push to digital India, the Central Board of Direct Taxes is planning to issue PAN card on the real-time basis by using the e-KYC facility of Aadhaar card. Also, a smartphone app is being developed to pay income tax online, and it will also have other services like applying for PAN card and keeping track of tax returns. 

 

Through Aadhaar’s e-KYC facility applicants of the PAN card will be able to verify their details by using the biometric identification features such as thumb impression. According to a Times of India report, an official confirmed that this process will take five to six minutes as opposed to two to three weeks time that is required now. Under this new process the PAN number will be issued first and actual card will arrive later.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes has also tied up with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs to issue PAN cards in four hours to new companies incorporating via a combined form. This PAN will also be the business identification number for these companies. 

 

The IT department is also working on an app to simplify the tax paying by making the process online. This app will also have other facilities to help seniors as well as young taxpayers to tax their tax, track returns, and also apply for PAN card. Quoting the source, the same report confirmed that both the projects are in-house and that directorate of systems is coordinating with the Central Board of Direct Taxes.
