Kerala priest's son rescued from abductors 3 days after he was taken

The police have rescued a 20-year-old student hailing from Kerala after an encounter with his captors in Haryana, three days after he was taken.

Abhishek Xavier, son of pastor Xavier Mathew from Pathanamthitta, was rescued from Barahi village on Sunday. The police got to the perpetrators after sending Abhishek’s relatives with the Rs 75 lakh ransom demanded by them.

The abductors made the call for ransom to Abhishek's father Xaviour from the youth's mobile phone. The police then tracking their movements using the mobile tower location.

The assailants were holding Abhishek in a safe house near a cornfield. As soon as one of them got out of the house to claim the bag of money, the police shot him. A constable suffered serious injuries in the crossfire than ensued. The police freed Abhishek and took two persons into custody.

Abhishek, who is a student of Jagannath Institute of Management Sciences (JIMS) in Delhi, was abducted on Thursday evening, while he was on his way back home from college. 

Union tourism minister Alphons Kannanthanam had spoken to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar regarding quick action in the case.
