Was it suicide? CCTV footage shows Mishel walking towards bridge
In a significant development in the Mishel Shaji Varghese death probe, a CCTV footage has emerged, showing the teenager walking towards the Goshree bridge on March 5.
The footage, obtained from a surveillance camera in the area, supports the police's theory that the 18-year-old CA student committed suicide.
Mishel, who left her hostel on March 5 to attend the evening mass at Kaloor church, was found dead in the Kochi lake the next day.
CCTV footage of Mishel leaving the church in the evening had already been acquired by the police.
The new video shows Mishel walking from the High Court junction towards the Goshree bridge around 7 pm on March 5.
An eyewitness had earlier claimed that he saw a woman, who looked like Mishel, on the bridge around the same time. However, he could not confirm whether the woman he saw was actually Mishel.
According to the police, Mishel committed suicide due to the trauma caused by her relationship with distant relative Cronin Alexander Baby.
Cronin was arrested by the police on Monday and was charged with abetment of suicide.
