In yet another dowry case, a 20-year-old woman has committed suicide in Thiruvananthapuram Kerala. Salsha hanged herself to death at her in-law's house on July 11.

The girl got married off to Rohan, a Gulf-based businessman while pursuing graduation. She had to drop her education midway to get married, and in three months she decided to take her life.

Salsha had an arranged marriage fixed by her father a Gulf-based business man and mother Saleena. Roshan's family demanded 1-kilogram gold, land worth crores and an expensive car as dowry. Bride's family gifted a Toyota Innova Crysta worth ₹20 lakhs and gold worth ₹30 lakh as demanded by groom's family. The wedding was a grand one, and the groom was also given several other gifts apart from what his family had demanded.

The police report states that Salsha's parents grew suspicious as she committed suicide just 78 days after marriage. She was found hanging in Roshan's house on July 11 at 3 pm.

It was her brother who first filed a complaint that it was a case of dowry death. Though police looked for evidence, there were no signs of physical abuse on her body. However, her parents continued saying that Roshan and Naziyat were harassing their daughter demanding more dowry, the police said.

The officials became suspicious after finding that both the husband and his mother went into hiding soon after her death. Roshan later surrendered before the court after High Court denied him anticipatory bail, but Naziyat is still absconding. Both have been booked under Section 304B of the Indian Penal Code.
