Historical Gavi Gangadhareshwara temple premises becomes garbage yard

The historically significant Gavi Gangadhareshwara temple premises has become a garbage dumping ground for public, thanks to the neglect of BBMP and the Muzarai Department officials, reports Kannada Prabha.

Construction waste, hotel waste, plastic and the household waste are dumped at this site by the public. As the garbage has piled up, it is becoming unbearable to walk near the temple. Although the public are keep complaining to the BBMP to clear it, nothing has been done so far. However, the BBMP says the site belongs to Muzarai Department and it should take care of it. Though the place is stinking, the temple authorities are not taking care to get it cleaned as the site is not handed over to the temple. The CEO of the temple Nagaraj says the temple has requested the Muzarai Department to hand over the site and appealed to the government to develop the site for public convenience but to no avail, reports Kannada Prabha.

The BBMP says the site does not come under their jurisdiction. The Hanumanthanagar ward corporator Kempe Gowda says his ward ends at the border of the temple and hence come under his ward. The public are showing indifference to the problem except complaining.

The site was a playground earlier and children used to play there. After it has become a garbage dump site, the children are either unable to play there or play there risking their health.
