George moves privilege against T V Channel and Jagadish Shettar

Urban Development Minister K J George moved privilege motion against a private TV channel that telecast a news that government doctor Dr Shailaja had given a statement to CBI and based on the news Opposition leader Jagadish Shettar made allegation against him in the assembly session, reported Kannada Prabha.

The private channel telecast a baseless news that Dr Shailaja had stated that the government had brought pressure on her. Shettar made allegations against George in the assembly based on that news.  Even as the CBI is conducting investigation to speak alleging he is guilty is detrimental to his rights George said, preparing to move privilege motion.  Taking objection to this, Shettar said the issues mentioned by George does not come under the purview of privilege motion.  It is a strategy adopted by ministers to restrict Opposition. If this is allowed the Opposition will have to stop working hence forth, he said.

Speaker K B Koliwad said he will allow the minister to present the issue. Later he would allow Shettar also to present his views and to first listen to the minister. George then slammed Shettar and the TV channel. BJP members raised slogans and protested. The Speaker adjourned the session for 10 minutes. When the assembly reopened again, the Speaker postponed the discussion on both the issues.
