RPS vs MI result Rahane Smith show power Supergiant to a 7 wicket win

Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) have pulled off a wonderful victory in their first match of IPL 2017 against the mighty Mumbai Indians (MI). Rohit Sharma and co. posted a good total of 184 runs in their 20 overs - courtesy a late thunderstorm from Hardik Panyda, who belted 35* from just 15 balls. But that could not save the day for Mumbai Indians as they lost to RPS by 7 wickets.

Ajinkya Rahane got RPS off to a brilliant start. Mayank Agarwal was not timing the ball well and he fell early and in came the skipper of RPS, Steve Smith. The duo of Smith and Rahane added 58 runs from just 42 balls. Rahane looked immaculate out there in the middle as his timing was picture perfect. He brought up his half-century of the IPL 2017 in just 27 balls. Rahane ended on 60 from just 34 balls and that laid the platform for rest of the RPS batsmen to take them over the finish line.

Mumbai Indians' bowlers were all over the place initially as they failed to make an impact. Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers for MI as he was the most economical among all. Tim Southee also bowled well but he too conceded 34 runs in his four overs.

Smith also scored his first fifty as the captain of RPS in IPL 2017 and made sure that his side goes over the line along with none other than MS Dhoni. Smith finished with 84 runs from just 54 balls. MI did have a real good chance to get back in the game but they dropped two crucial catches of Smith and MS Dhoni. What a game of cricket we just noticed - that is what T20 cricket is all about as the game went right down to the wire.
