Tata Motors to show off powerful 1000 bhp T1 truck
- The 1000 bhp race truck has double the power in comparison to the T1 race trucks that will be competing in the championship this year
- The race truck accelerates from 0-160 kmph in 10 seconds

The engine of the all-new 1,000 bhp T1 race truck is being developed in collaboration with US-based Cummins Inc, enabling the company to set new benchmarks in the Indian commercial vehicles space, Tata Motors said in a statement.

The 1000 bhp race truck has double the power in comparison to the T1 race trucks that will be competing in the championship this year and is an example for the automaker to showcase the capabilities of its world truck - the Prima series. Tata says that the new 1000 bhp T1 Prima race truck is similar to the race trucks that compete under the FIA in the UK and Europe.

The new T1 race truck is based on a 12 litre ISGe Cummins engine that has been mounted in the centre of the chassis for equal weight distribution, enhanced fuel delivery and airflow. The diesel motor has been tuned to produce 1000 bhp at 2600 rpm and 3500 Nm of torque between 1600 and 2200 rpm. Power is managed by a 16-speed transmission sourced from ZF, which helps make it the fastest race truck developed by Tata Motors. With all that power, the race truck accelerates from 0-160 kmph in 10 seconds.

"Built with specifications similar to that of trucks that race globally, the vehicle was developed in a record time of 12 months - a demonstration of teamwork, speed and capability," Tata Motors Executive Director - Commercial Vehicles Ravindra Pisharody said.

Tata Motors and Cummins have a joint venture company called Tata Cummins established in 1994 developing engines in the range of 75 to 400 HP.

Tata Motors will host Season 4 of the T1 PRIMA TRUCK RACING CHAMPIONSHIP on Sunday, March 19, 2017. Considered as the F1 of Truck Racing in India, this championship is a grand spectacle of Tata PRIMA race trucks battling it out against each other, at the Buddh International Circuit (BIC), Greater Noida.

Besides inducting new Indian drivers to the sport, Season 4 will also feature Indian truck drivers from Season 3. Like in the earlier seasons, the championship will continue to host experienced international drivers representing six teams.
